What is Graphic Design?

What is Graphic Design?

Graphic Design started in the caveman era. Then way later in the future jumped into the first cartoons like first Mickey Mouse Animations. Now in the present it is used in Blogs, Posters, Cards, and other things. It follows first with thinking of ideas and sketching. Then creating your art creation. After revise your work and put on the finishing touches. For me I know that a graphic designer takes time and a slow process but good flow of steps in making my own things and that;s what I think of graphic design.

My Info graphics

How to Tie a Tie

Summary:

For my Info graphic I did How to Tie a Tie. I chose this as my info graphic because I didn't even know how to tie a tie, so I found the information and set up each step to make a simple techinque called the Four in Hand Knot. Then I made some sketches Typography, Image based, and Hand drawn. I worked on my Image based poster which took some editing. After I worked on my Typography poster that was showing the bright red side of the tie to tell about the steps and dark red side for not as important but still good to know the kind of knot types. I learned that to show what is important you need to have the info in bright big font and in bold to show what is more interesting to hear than the other information that is less important to read. I made the steps more visible and increased the size of the font and made the tie instead of stripes as I had it. Is now half bright red and dark red, the bright red showing steps of How to Tie a Tie in white big font. Next time I will make it where what's important easier to tell on a poster. I would go with my own creative style and just tweak my style to where it is better with the changes instead of doing the same thing.  I know that I will do better on next project that I get because I know some new things to add to what I like to do.

VML Field Trip 11/10/14

So I took a trip to VML which is the logo for the business VML's logo to the left. The business was in a airport that nobody uses unless if a emergency had happend or to use if it needed to be used. In VML we asked questions to Aaron Evanson. Some of the things I learned was how to set up a group. As well as to just bring out your ideas and make them. Then going into turning that idea into something that the client would like in make a design for a project. Also explaining a design in a simple way that client understood and made the the client happy. After the Q & A we were introduced to all or most of the VML/Airport building seeing the areas where the boss, executives, directors and other workers do their work. Got to know that VML could be easily moved if the Airport needed to be of use.

Field Trip 10/27/14

Yesterday we went on a field trip to visit the Bill Brady Gallery. The art was made by a Artist named Jeff Baij and Digital Artist, Michael Manning it was mostly made up of screens designs, banners, and similar to a snow globe but had sand in it instead. I thought the giant banners looked liked different images taken it was a good mix of different images like locations, cells, outer space, and other images
that could be seen. What I could describe the screens was sort of a flow of colors on some, also a sort of design of elements shown like lightning and light with a sort of dark to light blues, pinks, greens,  with smooth/sharp lines. If you saw the sand globes closely it looked liked different types of islands all around the world. I thought of the art in the gallery of mixing different seasons and telling that the artists loved summer and winter seasons because I saw a lot that describes/shows how they like that kind of weather.

Painting in Photoshop

So the first one is the palette I had mixed the primary four colors to make green, purple, and orange. The colors for each of the four shows the kind of brushes you can use that mostly issued to paint a picture in photoshop with the mixer paint brush tool to be able to use fan brush, smooth brush, erodible point brush, and as well as others.
In the top of photoshop which is the paint brush setting to make those kinds of brush dry, wet, and to mix colors together to make them blend together. In using dry  while using brushing won't do anything just will let you use a brush. When choosing wet in paint brush option bar this will let the color you chose to mix with the background color. As well to add wet, heavy brush will make it a lot easier to combine to colors together.

2014 Quarter 1 Skills

Beveled Text

Tools: pathfinder tool and the divide commandYou have to first use offset path in object menu then ungroup both the original and duplicate of text, use line tool to extend lines starting with the points, after select all to be able to use pathfinder and click divide in pathfinder menu, finally add the dark and light shades of the color you use for the textEasy tutorial: How to create beveled text in Illustrator on lyndia.com
My made Fonts
Tools: Object expand and Object offset path

First with the text go to object then click expand to be able to mess with the points using the direct select tool to bring in or out the points in the text, next do object offset path to add a bigger/small duplicate of the text you made, and as a option you can add in stroke panel menu put a amount of spacing between each letter
Easy tutorial: Create your own fonts and types find it on YouTube

Shiny Shield: Stroke panel, Opacity panel, Pathfinder panel, Gradient panel, Line tool, Direct selection tool, Gradient tool, and Object offset pathFirst step make a rectangle then use direct selection tool to stretch out the points into a shield form, next use stroke menu to add more to outline of the shield, then press add new stroke which will make a duplicate of the original stroke with the second stroke align it to the inner part of the shield so it going in, decrease the stroke of the original so it can be the outline of the second stroke, then add a third stroke have be the center stroke and have it moved behind the second stroke, after add a fill in (doesn’t have to be just green) put the fill at the bottom of the stroke panel, expand the shield by going to object then expand and ungroup the parts,  now add metallic gradients apply those to each stroke, with that object offset path with a negative number which will be a smaller duplicate, draw a arc through top copy the arc, go pathfinder menu and click divide with the fill and arc being both selected, take direct selection and delete bottom part of the arc fill, with top of the it change color to a black/white gradient and go to the opacity and decrease it by 80%, use gradient tool to add a shine gradient to the top part of the fill, edit paste in front to have second arc press divide in pathfinder panel, reverse gradient in gradient panel to add that glossy texture Follow the tutorial completely

My Gradient Mesh

One of the first and most important things to do to start the gradient mesh is vectoring (using the pen tool) the different pieces of the image. Secondly using the blur to to add the shine to the lighting areas
in the image. As well as use of the gradient mesh tool to add the bright and dark parts of the vectored image. The things I learned was or I guess relearned was using gradient mesh and pen tool because I had forgotten how to use both of those tools. The most important thing I learned was to actually using the pen tool because when I first used the tool I was kind of confused on how to use the tool but this practice helped me be able to use the tool and I use it for some of my projects and future projects.

Typography

So for typography we had to find out what font we are by answering four questions to see if your displined, relaxed, progressive, assertive, and other options. So in those four questions I got Emotional for the first question because I am always happy. For the second question I got Assertive because I usually always try to stay positive. Then got Progressive because I like to improve on just about everything. Finally got to the last question and got Relaxed because I am always the relaxed person in the room. The results were that my font was Cooper Black Italic.

3D CUBES

3D Cubes

To create a cube you need to first use the line tool to make your first line then the rotate tool to make duplicates of the line and hold the three line until you get your cube after need to start group the lines together so you can add color to all three sides. After make another 3 cubes to make the cube of cubes then repeat the same thing a few times until you get the cube of cubes. After I was done I
got to figure out how to put text on the cubes which was a little hard to understand but you do have to use the pen tool to vector the cube or cubes you have made then go to object and envelope to put it on
sides of the cube. Finally I got the idea of putting those skills while adding something that I thought of to put all three my initials to make the MAN CUBE which I called the cube design I created I made my initials using the line tool and figuring out the degrees where the lines are supposed to be then after I grouped the lines together shrank it a little bit and using the skills I made my text cube to make all my initials angled to put on the sides.

I learned a new way of using the line tool, I now know how to put text at angles, and also figured how I can make letters with the line tool.

What is Graphic Design?

It is art that uses programs like Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.  Also use a sketch book to up with ideas to make with those programs. I like to sometimes draw then bring some of those to life in usually Illustrator other times in Photoshop. I also try some tutorials to get better with Illustrator's and Photoshop's tools and effects. I get better at using those programs because I follow the tutorials so I can get more skills.

My E-maginze

This shows what you can do in e-communication program which is a 21st century program at Olathe Northwest. This explains that you can move around and film for Video. How you can use these four programs (Ai/Illustrator, Ps/Photoshop, Id/Indesign, and Fw/Fireworks) in Graphic Design. Show how you can start out a simple animation into something better in Animation. Putting into a website or adding onto one in Web Design. My E-maginze also shows how when looking at it that you can see how video connects to animation because Video is on top of the other in how they can help each other. Same goes with Graphics from Graphic Design can be added onto a website for Web Design.

Using the Photoshop Content-Aware Move Tool

Before
After

So as you see their is a huge difference in both before and after images. So what I did was use the   Content-Aware Move Tool in Photoshop (Look down below to see). When use of the tool you can circle a part of the image and it will add that part of the image you circle and cover on top the other area of image. So if you move around the pieces of the image it can drastically change. In what I did was move two or three colors of the image and cover the image into what you can see. I see it as a partially clouded sky. Well you say what you think it is because it can look like something else.
